How to Choose the Best Beaches of Phu Quoc

The beaches of Phu Quoc do not offer one identical tropical experience. Some are developed resort areas, others are quiet local shores, and several of the clearest snorkelling locations are found on islands accessible only by boat.

Choosing according to your preferred activity makes planning much easier.

For a Classic Beach Day

sao beach

Sao Beach is known for its pale sand and photogenic tropical scenery. It can become busy, particularly during peak travel periods, so visiting earlier in the day may provide a calmer experience.

khem beach

Khem Beach combines attractive coastal scenery with high-end resorts. Access and available services may depend on the particular section of beach you visit.

For Sunset

Long Beach, locally called Bai Truong, is one of Phu Quoc’s most convenient sunset areas. It has resorts, restaurants and beach bars along the western coast.

ong lang beach phu quoc

Ong Lang also faces west but generally offers a slower atmosphere. Small coves, coastal rocks and boutique accommodation make it suitable for couples and travellers seeking quieter evenings.

For a Northern-Island Trip

Bai Dai is close to resorts and major attractions such as Grand World, VinWonders and Vinpearl Safari. It should not be confused with Long Beach or Bai Truong.

ganh dau beach

Ganh Dau offers a more local coastal setting in northwestern Phu Quoc. Thom Beach, on the northeastern side, is better suited to travellers interested in fishing villages, mangroves and a quieter landscape.

For Snorkelling

may rut island beach

Gam Ghi, May Rut and Mong Tay islands are reached by boat from southern Phu Quoc. Tours may combine swimming, snorkelling and beach stops.

Choose an operator that provides safety equipment and clear instructions. Do not stand on coral, collect marine life or leave rubbish behind.

For Seeing Starfish Responsibly

rach vem beach

Rach Vem is associated with seasonal starfish sightings in shallow water. Their presence is never guaranteed.

Observe starfish where they naturally occur. Do not lift them from the sea, place them on the sand or rearrange them for photographs.

When to Visit

Tips for visiting beaches in Phu Quoc

November to April generally brings drier weather to Phu Quoc, but conditions vary between coastlines. Wind, rain and currents can affect swimming or boat tours even during a popular travel month.

Check the local forecast and follow safety warnings on the day of your visit.
