Ho Quoc Pagoda Phu Quoc Review: Hours, Dress Code & How to Visit
Ho Quoc Pagoda is one of the easiest and most rewarding cultural stops in southern Phu Quoc. Here's the practical part — when it's open, what to wear, and how to plan a smooth visit.
Quick facts
- Location: Suoi Lon Hamlet, Duong To Commune, about 10km from the airport and 20km from Duong Dong Town
- Opening hours: 6:00 AM – 6:00 PM, daily
- Entrance fee: Free
- Parking: Free
- Typical visit: 45 minutes to 1.5 hours
How to get there
The pagoda sits on the island's south-eastern coast, leaning against the mountain and facing the sea. It pairs naturally with a south-island day, since Sao Beach, Khem Beach and the Phu Quoc Prison museum are all close by. The road in is straightforward, and parking at the temple is free.
What to wear and temple etiquette
This is an active place of worship, so dress modestly — cover your shoulders and knees, and avoid short shorts or sleeveless tops, especially in the prayer halls. Inside the Main Hall you remove your shoes before stepping onto the wooden floor. Keep your voice low, and don't take close-up photos during worship or where signs ask you not to.
Best time to visit
Early morning is the standout. The pagoda faces east over the Gulf of Thailand, making it one of the best sunrise spots on the island; arriving around 5:30–6:00 AM also means cooler air for the climb and softer light for photos. Late afternoon is the calmer alternative.
Good to know
Entry is free, but donations are welcome if you wish to give — bring a little cash for that or for small items. During Tet, Buddha's Birthday and Vu Lan, expect a more crowded, ceremonial atmosphere.
